STAGE 1: INVESTIGATION

In this initial stage of service learning, the topic that we chose is Mediation in Medical Disputes. It should be emphasised that, despite the fact that mediation in medical disputes has been practised in Malaysia for a long time, many people are still unaware of these other alternatives for resolving medical conflicts. This is due to a lack of public knowledge and information about the merits of mediation in medical negligence cases for both claimants and healthcare practitioners in Malaysia. Thus, the purpose of this project is to determine the extent of societal exposure to mediation in medical disputes as an alternative dispute resolution method for settling disputes.​

REPORT

As a part of our investigation, we had conducted a public survey through Google Form to assess public knowledge and awareness regarding Mediation in Medical Disputes. The questionnaire may be divided into four sections namely:

B. Experiences

C. Awareness

D. Knowledge

From the survey, we managed to get more than 50 responses in between 5 – 10 November 2021. Our deepest gratitude to those who had contributed to our survey, your help is much appreciated. Through analysis and findings from these data, we found that the lacking in terms of knowledge of the topic perfectly aligned with our proposed objectives.

CONCLUSION

In a nutshell, we are determined to proceed to the next stage with our main purpose i.e. to be able to raise awareness and together educate the society regarding the matter at hand.
